Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative sent men and equipment to help restore power for sister cooperative during hurricane Irene.
On August 25 portions of Virginia started to feel some of the affects of the impeding hurricane named Irene. As the storm approached the state, Craig Botetourt Electric Cooperative closely followed the projected path and the likelihood of severe weather in our service territory.
Once the hurricane confirmed that it would only be affecting the coastal and central region of the Commonwealth, we were contacted by the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives to see if we could provide assistance to Community Electric Cooperative located in Windsor, Virginia. Community is located in the southeastern portion of the state in some of the hardest hit areas of Irene.
On the morning of August 28, CBEC sent men and equipment to Community Electric Cooperative to help their members recover from the affects of Irene, with the expectations that they would be there for up to a week.
“We feel fortunate that we were spared the destruction that the rest of the state felt from this storm. We know that if it was Craig Botetourt Electric Cooperative that was in need of help that we would receive assistance from the other electric cooperatives in the state and region,” said Shawn Hildebrand, General Manager of Craig Botetourt.
