Cooperative Employee Tragedy

Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative suffered a horrendous tragedy this morning (Wednesday, Dec. 19) when staff accountant Ashley Bayne lost her life in a shooting incident that took place at the cooperative.

The suspected shooter was not a cooperative employee. He was apprehended and hospitalized after a police chase with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shawn Hildebrand, the cooperative’s CEO, is working with law enforcement on the investigation.

The board and management have decided to close the cooperative office until Wednesday, Dec. 26. If you need to reach the cooperative between now and December 26, including outages, at any time by calling 540.864.5121 or 800.760.2232.

Please keep Ashley’s family and our co-op family in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead, and God Bless our CBEC family.
